REELGUY'S DVD REVIEW:
"Julie & Julia"'s recipe for success
Maine Connection: Amy Adams's character, Julie, follows Julia Child's recipe for making Maine lobster with unexpected results. Watching a New Yorker try to cook some lobsters in a pot is one of the funnier moments in an already funny picture.
Add a heavy dose of Meryl Streep, in another Oscar worthy role as the famous chef Julia Child
Use an equal share of the talented actress Amy Adams, who gives the movie a modern edge and a jolt of energy
Sprinkle the picture with a wonderful supporting cast, especially well-rounded, helpful husbands
Add a dollop of splendid dialogue that truly allows for character exploration and some really fun scenes
Put in the oven to bake. Take out and cover with the careful and loving direction of the experienced comedy director, Nora Ephron.
The result: A beautiful movie that blends two separate but intertwined stories together, while successfully meshing a biographical drama with a romantic comedy. A scrumptious treat that should appeal to both women and men.
Rated PG-13 for brief strong language and some sensuality.
